Freeride skis in 2015 should be build in a way, so that edges can be repaired or replaced by new ones.
When skiing off-piste, it is common to hit rocks, which means broken edges and partially exposed (wood-)cores. Then you have basically two options: Ski it without the full edge, which means no performance on slopes and deteriorating performance through the softening of the core because of the moisture or throwing it away. But if you could repair the edges and seal the core again you could use your ski a lot longer.
Yeah! The question will remain how to fix the edge. Put in a clip-on device, or some other grid system...

Absolutely, maybe you could add a bottom layer of metal to the core so that you can weld the edge to it. Don't know if it matter, if you have for example a titanium plate on top of the core or at the bottom.
